An average bottle of water cost around $1.50-$2.00. Of course, there are more expensive brands of bottled water that cost upwards of $200 or more. There are many that will argue this is way too much, even for the cheaper brands. But what about spending $60,000 on a single bottle? Acqua di Cristallo Tributo a Modigliani is an extravagantly priced bottle of water that sold for $60,000 at an auction to help a foundation battle global warming. The world’s most expensive bottled water was created by artist Paolo di Verachi, Guinness world record holder of the ‘World’s Most Expensive Tequila and Cognac Bottles.” The lavish design was inspired by the artwork of the late Amedeo Clemente Modigliani, and a tribute to him as well.
The bottle is handmade glass that is covered in 24-karat gold. As for the water itself, it’s from natural springs in France and Fiji, mixed with real glacier water from Iceland. The final touch is 5mg of 23-karat gold dust in each bottle.
There are less expensive replica versions for those not willing to spend quite so much. Ranging from $275 to $3,600, this exotic water is available in gold, silver, and crystal bottles. Each bottle comes with its own leather traveling case, and a certificate to prove its authenticity, which is signed by the creator. For each bottle purchased, 15% of the price is donated to the same foundation the proceeds of the original bottle were given to.
A dummy bottle was made as well, called “Tributo Modigliani, Diamond Sterling”, where gold, silver, platinum and 6,000 diamonds were used. The estimated retail price was set at $3.3 million, which makes Acqua di Cristallo Tributo a Modigliani seem cheap in comparison, despite earning the Guinness World Record for its price.
